WHY CHOOSE TO DO A MURAL OR A FAUX FINISH
FOR YOU OR YOUR CLIENT'S HOME OR BUSINESS
A mural is the most personalized means of expression for your interior. You
are having an artist create your very own one-of-a-kind work of art that
represents your hopes and dreams.
No wallpaper treatment will ever come as close as that.
Murals can be whimsical, great conversation pieces, and can create a special
ambiance in a room.
Murals and faux finishes are also very economical and practical:
They do not have seams that start to pop up. They last well over 25 years,
far longer than wall paper. They cost about the same as wallpaper.
They can be done outdoors and indoors, in highly humid areas such as
bathrooms,
where wallpaper wouldn't hold up nearly as long or even be an option.
Murals and faux finishes can be painted on challenging wall surfaces, such
as those with air conditioning grills ducts, stucco walls, etc. that could
not hold wall paper. They can camouflage pipes, trap doors, vents and any
other ugly intrusions on your walls.
One of the most effective uses of a mural is to create an illusion
of an opening in the painted surface itself.
This may take the form of :
an arch
window
French doors
jagged edges left by fallen masonry.
Illusionary space can be created beyond the wall by means of a landscape
scene, which is painted to be seen through these illusionary architectural
openings mentioned above. This works as effectively as the much more costly
renovation of breaking through walls and ceilings.
Certain walls that you may want windows or doors looking out to scenes may
not be exterior walls, therefore the construction is not possible. Only the
illusionary painting is!
Murals can also provide
you with a greater diversity of beautiful scenes,
such as tropical ones or others you can't find in your local area.
Faux finishes can save
you money by mimicking costly exotic marbles, woods semi-precious stones,
some of which are not available. In addition, you can create fantasy marbles
in all colors, and all types of textures and mixed media finishes that do
not exist in nature or anywhere else.
Murals and faux finishes can greatly increase the value of your home. Many
people do them before they move. They sell their houses faster and at a
better price, especially when the prospective
owner falls in love with the artwork. This works especially well, when
many houses in your neighborhood are for sale.
Commercial murals on the outside of buildings:
stop graffiti problems
beautify a neighborhood
tell a history of a building or town,
advertise products or services.
MURALS AND FAUX FINISHES CAN SOLVE VARIOUS DESIGN PROBLEMS IN EVERY ROOM OF
YOUR HOUSE.
Hallways
One of the most ideal places for murals. Why? Because they are
usually too narrow to put furniture. A mural is needed here to open up
a space, therefore making it look bigger. Hallways are usually the first
room you see coming into a home and will make a lasting impression.
Ceilings
Some of the most celebrated work is done on ceilings. When we look up at it
our sense of balance, proportion, and reality, is slightly altered by the
act of tilting our head backwards. This element of vertigo helps stimulate
the imagination. Ceiling murals give an illusion of heightened space.
Painted skies containing architecture, birds, flowers and trees are best.
Bathrooms Time
for meditation, lack of decoration or hanging pictures
because of humidity. Tranquil scenes are best.
Dinettes
Good places for murals. Informal, eclectic. Very understated room,
yet used everyday. Usually boring, empty walls.
Kitchens
Limited wall space. Painting can be done on cupboards,
around windows and over cabinets.
Dining rooms
Usually the most formal rooms in the house and also the least used. The
stuffy atmosphere can be considerably improved by some kind of visual feast,
adding a festive
atmosphere for dinner parties and the holidays.
Children's bedrooms
and PlAY ROOMs
My most popular request. Here people are not afraid to indulge themselves in
a world of childish fantasy.
We can depart from strict reality and refined taste
Living rooms
Last but not least. A mural on the
main wall creates an interesting focal point, as well as it ties together
all the design elements in a room. Marbleizing on a fireplace mantel,
columns and moldings adds elegance to a room.
Unusual requests
Places that are normally neglected for decoration:
private elevators
garage doors
enclosed swimming pool room walls
swimming pool walls and floor
outside garden walls.
Closet doors and all other doors
